The Science of BASWA Phon Classic

Pioneered in Switzerland, the BASWA Phon technology uses a layered structure to transform acoustic energy into thermal energy safely and invisibly:

• The Absorption Layer: High-density, randomly spun supporting mineral wool panels made from 92% natural and recycled glass are securely adhered directly to a stable, solid substrate (such as concrete or airtight plasterboard).

• The Microporous Aggregate Coating: Once the substrate panels are secure, our factory-trained artisans apply the two-coat, trowel-finished microporous render compound, derived from premium marble extraction aggregates. Sound waves pass effortlessly through this porous marble layer instead of bouncing off it, getting trapped and neutralized within the underlying absorption core.

• Grazing Light & Curve Performance: The specific benefit of the Classic (two-coat) system over single-layer alternatives is its extreme structural uniformity. By applying both a base and a final finishing layer, the plaster effortlessly tolerates severe grazing light (sidelight) conditions and smoothly conforms to compound architectural curves, arches, groin vaults, and complex domes.

  • Classic Top (0.3 mm marble grain): The smoothest, most refined monolithic finish available in the architectural market.

  • Classic Fine (0.5 mm marble grain): The industry-standard middle ground, offering a crisp, premium render look with optimal structural durability.

  • Classic Base (0.7 mm marble grain): A slightly textured, stone-like aesthetic providing robust resistance in high-traffic commercial spaces. [1, 2]

• System Thickness Options: Available in 30mm, 40mm, 50mm, and 70mm profiles. Our 40mm system is the most common residential selection (achieving a 0.85 NRC), while our heavy 70mm configuration targets a 1.00 NRC Rating for certified Class A Sound Absorption, providing elite control over low-frequency bass energy.

• Absolute Colour Choice: While natural brilliant white stone (matching NCS S 0500-N) is standard, the mineral coating can be custom-tinted to match virtually any color chart, including unlimited RAL and NCS colour matching. 

• Safety & Sustainability: The system achieves a strict Non-Combustible A2-s1, d0 Fire Classification (DIN EN 13501-1), features a high light reflectance L Value of 0.91, and carries the premium French VOC Regulation A+ rating for elite indoor air quality. 

 

 

Turnkey Hand-Trowelled Installation Process

Because BASWA acoustic plaster requires exact structural execution to maintain its open-pore composition, it can only be integrated by certified, factory-trained installers. Arthur Acoustics manages the entire technical process on-site: 

1. Substrate Preparation: We inspect the base wall or ceiling grid to ensure it is completely rigid, stable, and entirely airtight to prevent accelerated aging. 

2. Panel Adhesion: The high-density recycled glass panels are permanently bonded to the substrate using specialised mineral adhesives. 

3. Joint Filling & Sanding: Component joints are seamlessly bound, filled, and precision-sanded to establish a perfectly flat, monolithic under-layer.

4. Two-Coat Plaster Application: Our specialised plasterers apply the base coat, allow proper hydration and curing, and finish with the final hand-trowelled microporous marble render.
