Behind the Scenes: Bespoke Acoustic Media Wall Installation in Ashford, Kent

At Arthur Acoustics, we believe that a true home cinema or media room experience shouldn't just look spectacular—it needs to sound flawless, too. Modern media walls are fantastic for keeping cables, screens, and speakers neatly tucked away, but without the right acoustic treatment, large displays and hard surfaces can easily turn your pristine audio into an echo-filled mess.

We recently headed down to Ashford, Kent, to complete a stunning, fully integrated acoustic media wall installation. Here is a look at how we transformed this space from a raw timber framework into a sleek, acoustically optimized masterpiece.

The Challenge: Hiding the Gear, Maximizing the Sound

Our client wanted a ultra-clean, minimalist aesthetic with absolutely zero visible clutter. To achieve this, the design required embedding high-end, full-range speakers directly into the wall structure alongside a massive central display.

However, placing powerful speakers inside a hollow wall cavity creates a major acoustic challenge. Left untreated, the cavity acts as a resonant chamber, causing muddy bass, rattling, and severe sound distortion.

Step-by-Step: The Installation Process

1. Precision Framing and Speaker Integration

The foundation of any great media wall is the woodwork. As you can see from our progress shots, we worked closely alongside the installation team to build a robust timber stud framework. The custom-engineered speakers were flush-mounted directly into the lower and side sections of the recess, perfectly aligned to fire sound straight into the primary seating area.

2. Acoustic Absorption Layering

To prevent sound waves from bouncing around endlessly inside the empty timber pockets, we lined the upper and side cavities with high-density acoustic absorption panels. This crucial step dampens internal reflections and structural resonance, ensuring that the sound you hear from the speakers is crisp, tight, and completely uncolored by the wall itself.

3. Fitting the Site-Fabric Tracking System

To achieve that perfectly seamless, paint-like finish on the walls without losing an ounce of audio performance, we installed a heavy-duty fabric tracking system around the perimeter of the timber frames. This specialized track allows us to stretch acoustic fabric tight across massive expanses without any visible sagging, staples, or seams.

4. Seamless Acoustic Fabric Stretching

With the screen safely masked off and protected from construction dust, we wrapped the entire upper and side facades in a premium, acoustically transparent fabric.

Why Acoustic Fabric Matters: Standard fabrics reflect or muffle high frequencies. The specialised  textile we use allows sound to pass through completely unimpeded, meaning the speakers can remain entirely hidden from view while performing exactly as the manufacturer intended.

The Final Result: Sleek Aesthetics, Perfect Sound

The finished media wall is a masterclass in modern interior design and acoustic engineering.

Invisible Audio: The left, right, and center channels are entirely concealed behind a beautiful, textured grey acoustic fabric facade.

Striking Contrast: The clean lines of the fabric panels perfectly complement the stunning, hand-carved natural wood geometric cabinetry below.

Zero Resonance: Thanks to the internal acoustic treatment, the bass is punchy and deep, dialogue is crystal clear, and there are absolutely no annoying wall vibrations—even at high volumes.
